New Online Casino August 2020 Calendar

Casino

Online casinos saw a combined net of $87.77 million come in during the month of August. If we compare this to last year, the sum is more than twice August 2019's $41.1 million.

On a 2020 streak...

If you recall from our article on this past July, that was also a record-breaking month. The closing of the Atlantic City casinos was very good for the online casino industry in New Jersey.

But August’s total beat July's record of $87.5 million.

This means that, even with the reopening of the Atlantic City casinos, online casinos are still stronger than ever before.

August's Top Earners

It will come as no surprise that the Golden Nugget brought home first prize again this month. They netted an enormous $27.65 million, which is up 84.5% for them. Trailing rather far behind them are the 2nd and 3rd place online casinos:

  • Borgata's net: $19.8 million
  • Resorts' net: $17.9 million

Online Poker also Earns Bank

It has been a surprise for many in the online casino industry that online poker has not had more success. Despite the huge poker boom of the early 2000s and the increasing availability of poker sites, it just hasn't taken off as expected.

But August 2020 was a positive change for poker as well. Net income on poker went up 77.7%. This brought the revenue to over $3 million.

The resumption of business for land-based casinos appears to have no negative effect on mobile casinos in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Both states realized record-setting monthly revenue figures in August 2020, as the popularity of legal online gambling continues to gain.

Annual revenue crossed the half-billion mark for the year in New Jersey, while Pennsylvania’s online casino market appears to have hit its stride just over a year after launch. New Jersey and Pennsylvania combined stand at over $861 million in online casino revenue in 2020.

That figure could go over the $1 billion milestone when September’s revenue figures post, as the upward trend for legal online gambling in the US shows no signs of slowing down.

PA Joins NJ With Record-High August Revenue

Much like New Jersey, online casino revenue doesn’t seem to be affected by land-based counterparts going back in business. Pennsylvania online casinos posted $53,213,325 in August revenue, breaking the previous record-high mark of $51.3 million set in July.

Rivers Casino continues its reign as the top online casino operator in the state, with its PlaySugarHouse and BetRivers brands powering a yearly revenue total that will likely go over the $100 million mark in September.

Penn National Gaming’s DraftKings Casino skin continues to move up the ranks of Pennsylvania’s online casinos, enjoying a new high of $6,560,733 in August revenue.
